When I was out on the hunt for a practical slider, for some upcomming docu shoots, I’ve found the Edelkrone SLIDERPLUS+

First Edelkrone SLIDERPLUS+ reviews sounded good, the concept looked really smart, weight and size wise it matched what I was looking for.

So I went for it and bought the 2ft Version.

The slider was on backorder, but once the shipment left Turkey a couple of weeks later, the package arrived within almost 24h in Switzerland.

While unpacking I found the drag controll missing. This seems to be the same with all current deliveries.

I mailed Edelkrone about this, but did not get any feedback from them yet (2+ weeks later..).

So hopefully they will respond to my second mail I’ve sent them today. Another owner told me they are redesigning the drag control, which should be available by the end of June. Hopefully they send them out to all current owners who are missing them.

But back to the slider

It is really compact and also got a lock to fix the slider in the center position.

Weight wise it is around 1.7kg. So rather light compared to other products with the same glide lenght.

The price is more then fair and build quality is ok. More about that by the end of the year, when it traveled all over Europe with me.

Out in the field it did what it is supposed to do.

But I was rather surprised on how loud it is.

Onboard sound recording is a no go and you might want to think about to use it in a multicamera enviroment with sound recording due of that fact.

The glide feels a little stuttery sometimes. I will need to check the settings of wheels which might fix that. Some “wheels” are loose others are strong set. Maybe its just a small setting that fixes this.

It’s not as perfect as some other, much higher prices cine gliders with rubberized wheels. But it would also not be fair to compare a $500 slider with a slider that cost a couple of $1000.

Will I use it?

Sure, its small, light and gives the oportunity to get a few more dynamic shots while on the run.

I attached it to the outside of my backpack (including a fluid head), which works out for fast changes.

Anything I would change?

I will try if its possible to add some o-rings to the wheels. This would probably allow a much smoother glide then metal on metal.

O-rings would also be easy to fix and cost just a few cents. Maybe I’m wrong ^^

The feet need a longer adjustement range to get a real use. Right now they don’t really do much for what they are thought.

Bellow are some quick test shots:

So do I recomend this slider?

It really comes down to what you need/want to do.

For its asking price its nice, light and a very nice form factor. The function is decent, similar to other +/- $1000 sliders.

Its probably better suited for smaller cameras like dslr’s. The Canon C300 already puts a lot of weight on the rails when its out at the farest out position.

Don’t expect it to be the ultimate best super dupper awesome slider of the world and you’ll be fine ;o)

UPDATE

After a few mails with Edelkrone and some missunderstandings I’m happy to announce following blog update:

I just got a call from Edelkrone. They told me that every SliderPlus+ owner will receive the currently missing drag control for free.

They decided to ship out the current units without a drag control, because the drag controll gets a fresh design. Waiting for its production would have caused a large delay in shippment of the Sliders.

The production line is almost starting with the new designed drag control attachement (which will fit either end of the SliderPLUS+ if you got the most recent version with openings on both sides).

So free of charge shippment should start within the next couple of weeks.

This sounds like good news to me now.

Thanks Edelkrone for the call and chat about whats up with the missing part and future addons.
